The course remained unchanged until Patrick Merrigan, a leading golf course architect and a great admirer of James Braid, was retained to upgrade the layout to modern standards. Work on a major modification included the creation of three lakes, seven new greens and eleven new tees. The drainage was upgraded and a comprehensive tree planting programme was undertaken. All work was completed by Autumn 1995. In September 1996 the redesigned course was officially opened to coincide with the celebration of the club's centenary of its affiliation to the GUI.
The finished product is a testing 18 hole par 70 course, 6428 yards in length from the championship tees in a magnificent scenic setting of mature woodland, lakes and streams and set against the backdrop of the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
Well guarded greens with tree lined fairways and strategically placed water hazards combine to provide a challenging and enjoyable experience even to the most discerning golfer.
