
While the opening nine holes are comparatively and often deceptively benign, the back nine will long remain in the memory of the visitor for the variety and quality of shot making required to equal or better par. In the opinion of many the jewel of the crown is the 16th hole which demands two accurate shots to reach the stream and tree-guarded green. All the other holes present their own particular challenges but perhaps the 4th, 5th, 14th and 18th are the most notable and memorable.
The club has enjoyed its share of success in the area of inter-club competitions and the Irish Ladies Senior Cup , Irish Mixed Foursomes, Irish Junior Cup, Provincial Towns Cup and the Barton Cup have been won over the years. The most notable club golfer is Kitty McCann (nee Smye) who won the Irish Championship (1949) and the British Open Championship (1951) and was selected on the Curtis Cup team in 1952.
